What are the exact rights granted after a judicial seperation?

If judicial separation is granted by law, can I remarry or am I allowed to be in a living in relationship. If I am in living in relationship, can the separated spouse take any legal step against me?. He is not wiling to give me divorce just because he do not want me start my life again with somebody else.
