Should blacks in Asia take extra precautions?

I'm headed for Japan soon, but I've heard that the Japanese (or Asians in general) tend to be racist against blacks. The more I hear the more I'm starting to be afraid. Are there any extra precautions or tips (aside from extreme politeness) that blacks should take while living in Asia? I'll be there a while and I would also like to make friends so likewise does anyone know of ways to lessen the chances of being instantly hated or shunned?
